What is Tonsillitis?

If you have a sore throat, cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Avoiding close contact with people who are sick can also help prevent the spread of infection.

If your symptoms do not improve within a few days, or if they become worse, see a doctor. In some cases, a doctor may order tests to determine if the cause of the tonsillitis is bacterial or viral. It is important to see a doctor if the tonsillitis is recurrent, or if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as a rash, difficulty breathing, or dizziness.
